Kit has served the Belgium Cold Springs Fire Department and District in many capacities since joining in 1963. She is a fire department honorary lifetime member.

Kit retired as the Fire District Secretary in 2012, a position she held continuously from 1985. She served as Fire Commissioner from 1985 to 1990 and from 2015 to present.

Kit has served as Regional Director to the State Association of Fire Districts of New York State since 2010 and is presently the Chair of the Administrative Committee and the Program / Education Committee. She works with other officials throughout New York State to provide education and direction to Fire District Officials.

She has held all the offices of the Central Region Fire Districts Association and is currently Secretary / Treasurer. She has served as the Secretary of the Lysander Public Safety Coalition since its inception in 2001.

Her husband, Ken, was an active firefighter and served as a Chief of the fire department. She and Ken raised their family of five children on the family farm on Patchett Road. She has nine grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. She still lives on the family farm with two adult children and two grandchildren.
