Fire and EMS service is one of the most diverse and challenging vocations today. It is this diversity that attracts many to join our ranks. Firefighting & EMS is not for everyone, but volunteering can be.
The Belgium-Cold Springs team of volunteers is comprised of your neighbors, your friends, and maybe even your relatives. They’re people just like you – with families, jobs, and active lifestyles who still find time to give back to their community. Established in 1949, the Belgium Cold Springs Fire Department is a premier provider of emergency services in Onondaga County, New York – protecting residents and businesses in, and around, our primary response area in the Town of Lysander. We provide firefighting, emergency medical service, extrication, and fire prevention education from our stations located at 7920 River Rd. (Station 1) and 8451 Loop Rd (Station 2). Our locations make BCSFD a convenient place to volunteer for any of our residents. We pride ourselves in our ability to provide outstanding fire & EMS as non-profit organization with both volunteer and career Firefighters and EMTs working together. We need volunteers to answer the call and support this mission.
We take emergency services very seriously. Our volunteers realize that the services that BCSFD provides are a critical component of the life safety and property preservation available to the residents. We are committed to providing 24/7/365 fire and EMS services. The department maintains a fleet of apparatus that includes an engine company (E11/E21), a heavy-duty rescue (R1), light-duty rescue (R2), aerial platform truck (T2), aerial ladder truck (L1), two squads (S1/S2) and several command and support vehicles.
Belgium’s membership is made up of approximately 60 active firefighters and EMS personnel and numerous administrative, support and life members. The Belgium Cold Springs Fire Department is always seeking more neighbors to bolster our ranks.
There is more to the fire department than just fire. We need volunteers in many areas, including:
