Caretaker

The Belgium Cold Springs Fire District, in the Town of Lysander, is looking to fill the position of Caretaker with an energetic individual that has broad experience and education in the Fire and EMS service to maintain the District’s equipment and facilities.  Individual must be organized, detail orientated, able to multitask, dependable and able to work flexible hours.  This is a full-time position.  We offer a competitive salary and benefits commensurate with the applicant’s qualifications and experience.

Duties

Minimum high school diploma, or equivalent, with experience in maintenance and equipment operations.  Must be knowledgeable and have experience in the general trades including, carpentry, painting and general mechanical maintenance, and familiar with tools, power tools and medical supplies.  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to safely operate maintenance equipment and trucks.  Able to work independently and accomplish assigned projects with minimum guidance.  Must be able to communicate effectively verbally, written and through computer related programs and supervise an individual or small team.  Exhibit a high degree of professionalism and the ability to effectively deal with the public.  To fully comprehend the responsibilities of this position and the equipment exposed to, the ideal candidate should be willing to obtain and maintain Interior firefighter and Emergency Medical Technician (Basic) certifications.

Special Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Minimum age of 21 years
• Possession of a valid driver’s license issued by the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles
