Matt joined the Belgium Cold Springs Fire Department in 2000. He is a life-long resident of Baldwinsville and resides here with his wife Amy and their black lab Maddie. Matt got started with BCSFD because of a chance encounter with one of our members. Back in 2000, Matt was working for a vendor who happened to be doing some work for BCSFD. Matt mentioned to Kit Thompson (District Secretary at the time) that he would swing by the next night on his way home from work to finish up the work. Kit inquired where he lived and discovered he indeed was in the BCSFD Fire District. Kit immediately handed him an application for membership. He filled out the application and handed in the next day, and the rest is history!
Matt is a New York State Certified EMT, a nationally certified Fire Instructor II and holds many other certifications at the County, State, and Federal level. After serving as a firefighter, Matt moved into officer ranks at BCSFD. From Lieutenant to Captain and eventually moved into the Assistant Chief ranks which he held for a number of years. In 2019, was elected to the Chief position of the Belgium Cold Springs Fire Department.
